Basic Principles of One Zone SMT Reflow Oven
Paste Application:
Before placing the components, solder paste is applied to the PCB pads using a stencil. The paste consists of solder particles suspended in a flux medium.
Component Placement:
SMT components are then placed onto the solder paste-covered pads using a pick-and-place machine or manually.
Preheat Zone:
The PCB enters the oven's preheat zone, where it is gradually heated. This step ensures the solder paste melts evenly and activates the flux, which cleans the surfaces to be soldered.
Thermal Soak Zone:
The PCB continues to heat in the thermal soak zone, where the temperature is held constant to ensure uniform heat distribution across the board and components.
Reflow Zone:
The temperature is raised to the peak reflow temperature, causing the solder to melt and form solid joints between the components and the PCB pads.
Cooling Zone:
The PCB is gradually cooled to solidify the solder joints, ensuring strong and reliable connections.
