Types of Wave Soldering Machine
Single wave:
This is the most common type, utilizing a single wave of solder to create the connections.
Dual wave:
This type uses two waves, with the first wave being a turbulent wave to help break up surface oxides and improve solderability, followed by a laminar wave for creating smooth and reliable solder joints.
Step 1: Preheating
At this stage, the temperature of the board rises gradually, which reduces the thermal shock to the components. It helps to activate the next stage of fluxing and improves the flow of the solder.
Step 2: Fluxing
Before the soldering process starts, fluxing is done to remove oxidation from the PCB. It also prevents oxidation during the soldering process itself. This helps in better bonding of the components.
Step 3: Solder Wave
The PCB is passed over a pot of molten solder that is pumped up to form a standing wave. This is where the wave soldering machine ensures that the molten solder adheres to the metal surfaces and connects the components with the PCB pads.
Step 4: Cooling
The PCB is shifted to a controlled cooling zone, which solidifies the solder and ensures strong and defect-free joints come out.
The Role Of Wave Soldering Machine
Wave soldering machines have been designed so that they can be used with a variety of connections such as flatness, angle or roundness tolerance. The machine needs only one operator who feeds materials into the machine (either manually or mechanically), which then moves along its path until it reaches an area where it will apply solder onto another part using an attachment called “wet sanding” tool. Wave soldering machines are used for high speed production, where the electrical boards and circuit boards of electronic products need to be connected quickly.
